Where to Watch

Paramount Plus has a near corner market when it comes to Legends of the Hidden Temple. You can stream the series on that platform or via the Paramount Plus channel available on Amazon, Roku, and Apple TV devices.

Another way to watch Legends is to catch it on Pluto’s No Parents Allowed Children’s program. The downside is you can’t actually stream Legends on No Parents Allowed. The channel uses a variable schedule, so it is important to check Pluto’s website to know when Legends will be on next. Also take note that because Pluto is not streaming the series, viewers will have to content themselves with whatever episode is currently playing on No Parents Allowed. If you can’t do without streaming, you need Paramount Plus.

Summary

Legends of the Hidden Temple is the thrilling journey of six teams of children as they compete through several levels of physical and mental challenges. Their goal? To earn the right to enter Olmec’s mysterious, closely-guarded temple and retrieve an ancient relic. If they can make it out in time, the winning team wins the grand prize.

Does all that sound a bit confusing? If so check out the rules below!

Getting to Know the Game

  • The show begins with an introduction from the host, Kirk Fogg.
  • Six teams, the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, the Purple Parrots and the Silver Snakes, compete in the first-round physical challenge; at the end two teams are eliminated, leaving four.
  • The four remaining teams have to answer “difficult” questions on the Steps of Knowledge. Only two teams will advance to the Temple Games with their correct answers.
  • The Temple Games award Pendents of Life to the winners of each challenge. After three challenges, a winning team is crowned and heads to the Temple to try and win the grand prize. If a tie takes place, Kirk asks an exciting tie-breaker question to pronounce a winner.
  • The final team has earned the right to enter the Temple.
  • Teammates have to choose their route through the maze-like Temple while trying to accomplish mini challenges like assembling the shrine of the silver monkey. They have only three minutes to find their goal – the legendary relic – and bring it out of the Temple.
  • Players have to watch out! The Tempe is filled with surprises and guarded by Mayan warriors. If one of the players comes across one of the three hidden guards, he either has to forfeit his Pendent of Life (which works pretty much like a get out of jail free card; he can still continue), or he must return to the Temple’s entrance while his partner takes a try. If both players are caught, then they lose the game.
  • If a player reaches the room with the relic, all the doors of the Temple unlock and the guards disappear, making it easy for the player to escape and win. Even so, the clock doesn’t stop until the player is outside the Temple, making it possible to lose the grand prize if the clock expires before the player makes it out.

What We Liked

Legends of the Hidden Temple stands apart from other game shows because it’s possible not to have a winner. Knowing that nothing is guaranteed in Legends, keeps viewers excited, interested, and entertained. The 1993 version appeals to families by featuring children as the stars of the show. Our favorite team was the Blue Barracudas, what was yours? Let us know in the comment section down below.
