Summary
Time at the Top (1999) is based on the 1963 novel by the same name, and written by Edward Ormondroyd. The film centers around Suasn Shawson and her father, both of whom have had trouble adjusting to life without their wife/mother.
Susan life changed forever while on an ordinary errand for her blind elderly neighbor, Mr. Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds mostly lived alone after his wife had died mysteriously in a laboratory fire that also cost him his eyesight. Susan delivered some newspapers and a strange old panel cover for an elevator to Reynolds’ storage locker located in the basement of their apartment building. Susan found a key ring in Reynolds’ that fit the lock on the elevator panel, but when she turned it, she was in for a surprise.
The elevator rose rapidly, and when it stopped, Susan walked out of the modern world of cars, TVs, and the internet, into the late 1800’s. It didn’t take long for Susan to discover she had traveled in time or to befriend some of the people around her. Along with her new friends Victoria and Robert Walker, Susan tries to use the time machine elevator to save the Walker’s mother from being forced to marry a gold-digger gentleman called Mr. Sweeny. However the difference between past and present is not always so simple to bridge; Susan and her friends find that time is not easy to manipulate.

What We Liked
Time at the Top combined elements of adventure, comedy, and drama. Instead of the typical difficulties time travelers face with returning to their own time, Time at the Top focuses on the challenges and responsibilities experienced by Susan, Victoria, and Robert. We also liked the comedic Edward Ormondroyd (Richard Jutras), a busybody neighbor who helps Susan’s dad search for his missing daughter.
